Manage sites

Who can do this: Superuser Admin Field Tech (add only) Viewer (read-only)  ·  Where: top navigation → Sites, or the Add Site card on the Dashboard

Add new sites and browse every site in your tenant, split into Unassigned Sites (no client yet) and Assigned Sites (grouped by client). A summary strip shows assigned clients, assigned sites, and the unassigned count at a glance.

What each role can do here

This page has the sharpest role split in NorthGrid, and it's intentional:

  • Admins can add, edit, create reports for, and delete sites.
  • Field Techs can add sites only. The lists are for navigation; any other change from a Field Tech is refused with "Not authorized." Their new sites also enter an approval flow — see below.
  • Viewers can look but not touch: "Your account is view-only and cannot modify sites."

Add a site

  1. Choose a Client — or leave it as — Unassigned (no client yet) — to assign one later.

Field Techs and Viewers can't pick the client

For these roles the Client selector is locked to the client context you arrived from (or Unassigned), and NorthGrid enforces the lock server-side — a different posted value is ignored.

  2. Enter the Site Name (required).

  3. Optionally attach Site Image(s) — JPG, PNG, or WEBP, multiple allowed.
  4. Select Add Site.

What happens next depends on who you are:

  • An admin's site is approved immediately — "Site added."
  • A Field Tech's site is created as unapproved"Site submitted for approval." It appears in the Dashboard's Unassigned / Unapproved Sites queue, where an admin can Approve it (or fix the name with Change Name & Approve). Until then it wears an orange Unapproved badge.

Every new site also starts as Unmanaged, regardless of role — an admin flips it to Managed later on the site's detail page.

The back link above the form is context-aware: Back to Client, Back to Clients, or Back to Dashboard, depending on where you came from — and after adding, NorthGrid returns you there.

Browse and act on sites

Unassigned Sites lists sites with no client (yellow Unassigned badge; orange Unapproved where applicable). Assigned Sites groups sites under their client. In both lists you can:

  • Select a site name or View to open its detail page.
  • Create Report (admins) to open the site report.
  • Delete (admins) — a browser confirmation asks "Delete this site?" before it proceeds; on success you'll see "Site deleted."

Site deletion is immediate

Unlike clients, sites have no request-and-approve safety net — confirming the prompt deletes the site right away. Check the name in the row before you confirm.

Troubleshooting

"Site name is required." : The name field was left blank. Enter a name and submit again.

"Not authorized." (Field Tech) : Field Techs can only add sites here. Edits and deletions are admin actions — or make changes on the ground and ask an admin.

"Security check failed (CSRF)." : Stale page. Reload and repeat the action.

My uploaded site images didn't save. : The site itself was still added — the success message will note the image problem separately. Confirm the files are JPG, PNG, or WEBP and retry the upload from the site's detail page.

My new site isn't showing under its client. : If you added it as a Field Tech, it's waiting in the Dashboard approval queue; if you left the client blank, it's under Unassigned Sites.

  • Site details — edit a site, assign its client, manage images and equipment
  • The Dashboard — where Field Tech site submissions get approved
